Landcare School

Wooragee Primary School is proud to be the first Landcare school in the region, a distinction that reflects our deep commitment to environmental education and sustainability. We actively collaborate with Wooragee Landcare on a variety of hands-on projects that promote environmental stewardship, including creating our frog bog, planting trees, installing possum shelters, and participating in Clean Up Australia Day. Through these projects, our students gain practical experience in caring for the local environment, developing a strong sense of responsibility and connection to the natural world.

Yirrikama

Yirrikama, our bush playground, offers students an immersive natural learning space where they can explore and engage with the environment in a meaningful way. This unique outdoor space is complemented by our award-winning gardens, designed to showcase the beauty and importance of local flora and fauna. Among the playground equipment features are the kookaburra and flying fox sculptures, which serve as both artistic landmarks and interactive play elements for children to climb and explore. These creations inspire creativity, physical activity, and a deeper appreciation for nature, providing students with a fun and educational space to learn and grow.

Vegetable Garden

At Wooragee Primary School, our food production program plays a key role in enriching students' learning experiences and promoting sustainability. Our orchard provides a variety of fresh fruit, while the chook shed offers opportunities for students to care for chickens and collect eggs. In our raised garden beds, students grow a range of vegetables and herbs, learning about plant growth, soil health, and sustainable farming practices. Additionally, our aquaponics system integrates fish farming with hydroponic plant growing, allowing students to explore the symbiotic relationship between plants and animals in a controlled environment.

These hands-on experiences in food production not only teach students valuable skills in gardening, animal care, and sustainable living, but also connect to broader learning outcomes across the curriculum. By engaging with these systems, students develop a deeper understanding of food security, environmental responsibility, and the science behind how we grow and produce food. This practical approach helps foster a sense of responsibility and a stronger connection to the world around them.
